FAQs

Will a KIRKEY RACING seat fit my application?

We produce seats for just about any racing application imaginable. The vehicle will need a roll cage or roll bar for the seat to be mounted securely to. KIRKEY RACING seats are not designed for street use in a road car where fixed mounting is not available.

How do I install a KIRKEY RACING seat?

A seat is only as strong as the mounting, you can have the best seat in the world but if it is not mounted properly then it is not likely going to perform as designed. Most standard seats require the seat to be mounted in two points, the bottom (or side), and at the rear of the seat just below the shoulder belt holes. A containment seat requires more work and possibly some fabrication. The bottom,(or side) of the seat mounts normally, the rear of the seat comes with four stock mounting points. Ideally you want to try and utilize all four points to distribute the load evenly. Most containment seats have rear brackets available to purchase that should work in most applications. We recommend against the use of stock sliders and adjusters. If you are unsure how to mount your seat properly, please contact us for advice. Be sure to check with your sanctioning body and /or track for their rules and regulations on seat installation. Each seat series has an installation guide available on our website. Please contact us at 1-800-363-4885 with any installation questions.

How do I clean my KIRKEY cover?

Vacuum all areas first! Very Important, as the more dry and loose debris/dirt you can remove before getting any area wet, the better. Using an automotive upholstery cleaner spray the pre-vacuumed area with cleaner, scrub with brush aggressively, mop up by hand using a micro-fiber cloth.

Which KIRKEY RACING seat should I choose?

Simply go to our website www.kirkeyracing.com and click on "What do you race?" There we will recommend a seat or seats depending on the type of race car you have.

How do I pick the right size of seat?

If you are unsure of which size to purchase, please contact us at 1-800-363-4885 and we can help you choose the correct size.

What if I need to make a change to a KIRKEY RACING seat?

Whether you want to lower the ribs an inch or make a major modification, we can custom build any seat to your specifications. There is an additional cost for this. To order a custom seat we will need a completed custom order form (available on the website) and any special details written on paper and faxed to us at 1-800-363-4885. A hard copy of your information is the only way we will build a custom seat. We strongly recommend against you modifying the seat after it has been purchased; this can compromise the strength and safety of the seat.

What kind of cover can I get for my KIRKEY RACING seat?

Every seat has a cover to match it, and only the matching cover will fit. The cover options are different with each series of seat. Special order covers are available however they are non-returnable. Please call for pricing.

Can I still get a seat cover for my discontinued seat?

To see if a cover is still available for your old KIRKEY seat, we will need the part number of the old seat and/or cover. If you cannot find any markings, then you can take some photos of your seat and email kevin@kirkeyracing.com to identify it. The cost for a discontinued cover will vary, please call (800)-363-4885 for pricing.

Can I get extra supports for my KIRKEY RACING seat?

KIRKEY RACING offers additional seat mountable supports and restraints for extra protection. Head, shoulder and leg supports are available and mount to any of our seats. If you are looking for added head and shoulder protection, we also have restraint kits available. These supports offer increased protection and help reduce driver fatigue. Note: some seats have specific supports, please call before ordering. Drag seats do not normally use seat mountable supports.

Will my KIRKEY RACING seat accept different styles of safety belts?

Our standard seats are designed to be used with 5-point safety belts. The more advanced seats, (45/47/56/58/68/69/70/71/73/88/89/91 series) will accommodate 6-point belts. Regardless of the manufacturer these belts styles should work just fine. Always follow manufacturer directions for installing safety belts.

Do you have any drawings with dimensions?

We do have shop drawings for our seats available on our website, the seat weights are listed as well.

How are KIRKEY RACING seats made?

Each KIRKEY RACING seat has been designed and engineered with CAD-CAM and built using CNC cutting Tables, CNC folding brakes and the latest in welding technology. All seats are made from 5052 grade aluminum which is then MIG and TIG welded. Within our product range we use .080, .100 and .125 thick aluminum. The covers are also machine cut on a CNC Die Cutter. We only use high quality materials, and every cover is sewn by hand.

I was in an accident and my KIRKEY RACING seat is bent, what should I do?

If the seat is bent, wrinkled, separated or in any way deformed then it should be replaced, the structure of the seat has been compromised. Using a seat that is deformed will only increase your risk of injury.
